Support and FAQ for the Chrome extension.

Installation

Getting Sofair Scanner

How do I install Sofair Scanner?

Open the Chrome Web Store listing and click «Add to Chrome». The icon will appear in your browser toolbar — click the puzzle icon next to the address bar and pin it for easy access.

Which Chrome versions are supported?

Chrome 120 or later. The extension uses Manifest V3 APIs that are stable from this version onward.

Does Sofair Scanner work in Edge, Brave, or Opera?

It should work in any Chromium-based browser that supports Manifest V3 extensions. We test only against Chrome itself; other browsers are best-effort.

How it works

Scoring & behaviour

What does the score mean?

A 0–100 rating based on four sub-scores: Structured Data, Discoverability, Content Freshness, and Category Benchmark. Higher = better AI visibility. The exact weights are documented in the extension's open-source repository.

Why does my own site show «Available after indexing in Sofair»?

Two of the four categories (Content Freshness, Category Benchmark) require the site to be present in our Sofair index. If your site is not indexed yet, you can submit it for free during pre-launch — there's a CTA in the popup labelled «Submit to Sofair workshop».

Why is my score lower than I expected?

Common causes: no JSON-LD / Schema.org markup, missing /llms.txt or /ai-info.json, robots.txt blocking AI crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended), or no /sitemap.xml. The «What to improve» section in the popup lists actionable recommendations.

Why is the score 0 on this page?

Either the page genuinely lacks AI-friendly signals, or the page is dynamically rendered and the extension's quick probe didn't catch a value. Try reloading the page first, then click the extension icon again.

Privacy and permissions

What the extension can and can't see

What data does the extension collect?

Only the domain of the tab where you click the icon (e.g. example.com), sent to our server to check our index. We never receive your browsing history, page content, or personal information. Full policy: sofair.ai/extensions/privacy/sofair-scanner.

Why does it ask for «Read and change all your data on websites»?

Chrome shows this generic warning for the activeTab + scripting permission combo, but in practice the extension only activates on a tab at the moment you click its icon, and only reads public metadata (JSON-LD tags, robots.txt, etc.). It cannot read your data on other tabs.

Is crash reporting on by default?

No. Crash reporting via Sentry is opt-in — you must explicitly enable it in the Options page. By default the Sentry SDK is never loaded into your browser.

Languages

Localization & layout

What languages does the extension support?

English (default), Russian, and Hebrew (with right-to-left layout). The language is auto-detected from your Chrome UI language; you can override it with the EN · RU · HE switch in the popup footer.

The popup is in the wrong language. How do I switch?

Open the popup, scroll to the footer, and click the language code you want. The popup reloads instantly. Your choice is remembered for future sessions.

Troubleshooting

When something goes wrong

The popup shows «Sofair backend unavailable».

This means the extension couldn't reach our API. Check your network connection. If you're on a corporate VPN or proxy that blocks sofair.ai, the extension cannot function. Click the retry button to attempt again.

I see «Update required».

The server expects a newer version of the extension than the one you have installed. Open chrome://extensions/ and click the update button, or wait — Chrome usually pulls updates automatically within a few hours.

The popup is stuck on «Scanning…».

This is rare. Try reloading the page and clicking the icon again. If it happens repeatedly, open Chrome DevTools on the popup (right-click in the popup → Inspect) and check the Console tab for errors — include the error text in your support email.

Still stuck? We'll help.
